WEEK 6 (SHELTER AND MAINTENANCE)

WEEK 6
FRIDAY
13 APRIL 2018
SHARE FARM UITM JASIN MELAKA

Asslamualaikum to everyone. i hope all of you in a good health and happy today. This week I will continue explain and telling to you about my activity at the share farm Uitm Jasin. On this week, our planting bed is already settled with others work, and we just doing the general maintenance for the planting bed such as watering the plants, cleaning the drains, remove the weeds on our planting bed and others. Besides that, we also take some initiative to make a shelter on our farm because the functions of the shelter was to protects us from the sun's heat when all of us take a rest. This idea to make the shelter was came from our lecturer Miss Azlina.

Find the oil palm fronds

Together we build the shelter

Put the oil palm fronds on the top of the shelter as a roof

This shelter was design by all of us that its can put all of us under the shelter. We have only use the balance of the branch from the wood we finds for the staking process. Its enough to builds big shelter for us because the balance of the woods was so many.

After this shelter finish the builds we can used of its for resting and eats together under the shelter. It is really function and useful to us that we are not doing the useless work.

General Maintenance

We must do the general maintenance to our planting bed to make sure its free from disease and pest. We must cleans the planting bed from the fallen leaves because it's can cause fungi to our our crops.
Clear the drains to make sure the water can flow freely or not it's will make our planting bed hit by the flood.

My planting bed

We are also must remove and clear the pest that eats the leaves. This pest it's not good for our crop because it's eat the leaves that can disturb the photosynthesis process.

The caterpillar that eat the leaves

Thank you guys for your time.

SHARE FARM UITM JASIN MELAKA

Asslamualaikum and welcome to my blog, thanks to all of you that stay patiently reading my entry about my activity at farm. This time entry is about our activity on week 5 that we all continued to settled our planting bed. Last week, on week 4 we already sowing the seed on planting bed. Alhamdulillah, our seeds sprout after 4 days of sowing and I am so happy. Each of the holes that contain seeds of long bean was sprout out from the soil, its means that our seeds and soil was in a good condition.

Selfiee...with the newborn baby
My planting bed..
The next days after the seeds is sprout, the mulch that we put on our planting bed was remove, its because if we not remove the mulching it will block the growth of our plants.

remove the mulching

STAKING PROCESS

Staking process is the process to support the plants that creeping likes long bean. This process we only use branch of the trees that we all together find it at jungle near the share farm. We need at least 4 days to us to find and collect all the tress around 10 centimeter of diameter because we are lack of tools and equipments.

Basically, only students from class B and class C only because all of us only planting the crop that creeping to support the plants. Except from students class A they planting corns.

Using Axes

Perform!!!

Smile!!!!

Gather the branch

Sharpened the ends of the woods

After we settled with gather all the branch and enough for all students for class B and C we proceed with making holes at the our planting bed. Each of the planting bed we puts 5 branch of the wood, 3 branch of the wood we planting by default of vertical to supports 2 of the branch that we put by default of horizontal.

Demo!!

Focus!!!

Teamwork!!!

After we complete with planting all the branch we use raffia rope to tie over the branch to be able the crop creeping to the top of the branch.

thumbs up!!!

Take 5!!!

Keep the spirit on, and dont give up.

Fertilizer Process

Assalamualaikum and hey everyone, I hope all of you in healthy and always happy with your family or friends. According to our lecturer we cannot used chemical fertilizer because we are using organic planting so we just use organic fertilizer from animal wastes. The organic fertilizers are fertilizers derived from animal matter, animal excreta(manure), human excreta, and vegetable matter such as compost and crop residues. Naturally occurring organic fertilizers include animal wastes from meat processing, peat, manure, slurry, and guano.
Measure the chicken dung 6 kilo for each planting bed

In contrast, the majority of fertilizers used in commercial farming are extracted from minerals such as phosphate rock or produced industrially like ammonia. Organic agriculture, a system of farming, allows for certain fertilizers and amendments and disallows others. For us our planting bed is sized 4 times 22 feet so we must apply 6 kilogram of chicken dung to our planting bed. We divided the chicken dung by using the weighting scale.

Our friends is demo to us about how to apply the chicken dung into planting bed.

Basically, function of chicken dung is to give nutrient to crop and to fertility the. This is the important thing to soil because it is can give nutrient for crops growth. For planting bed size of 4 times 22, we apply 6 kilogram of chicken dung to our planting bed.

There are five ways can we apply the chicken dung:
  1. Plow the soil
  2. Open small hole along the planting bed
  3. Throw the chicken dung to the holes that we make earlier
  4. Close the hole and plow the soil to make sure the chicken dung blend well to the soil
  5. Continued to the all part of the planting bed

Our P.E  monitoring us
Focus is important
For your information, after we finish apply the chicken dung to the planting bed we let the soil blend well with the fertilizer in 1 day. It is because normally chicken dung is the high heat matters so it is not good for the crops if we keep on planting the crop.

SOWING PROCESS

According to Wikipedia sowing is the process of planting. An area or object that has had seed planted in it will be described as being sowed. We plants our crop with type of sowing which is hand sowing is the process of casting handfuls of seed over prepared ground, or broadcasting. Usually , a drag or harrow is employed to incorporate the seed into the soil. We make 2 to 3 centimeter depth of the holes and 20 to 25 centimeter between the holes throughout the planting bed.

Put seed on the holes
At my planting bed, i have make 48 holes to sow the seed and each holes.I have put 3 to 4 seeds of long beans which is the crops that our class must plants. The reason I plants the seed 3 to 4 seeds each holes is to make precautionary measures if I plants only a seed in a hole the possibility of the seed not sprout is high.

Focus !!!!

Why so serious bro!!!
After we settled with planting the seeds, we keep on with watering the planting bed with 3 watering can. Walla....

Mulching Process

A mulch is a layer of material applied to the surface of soil. Reasons for applying mulch include conservation of soil moisture, improving fertility and health of the soil, reducing weed growth and enhancing the visual appeal of the area. A mulch is usually, but not exclusively, organic in nature. it may be permanent such plastic sheeting or temporary such bark chips and dry leaves. It may be applied to bare soil or around existing plants. Mulches of manure or compost will be incorporated naturally into the soil by the activity of worms and other organisms. The process is used both in commercial crop production and in gardening , and when applied correctly, can dramatically improve soil productivity.

Collect the dry leaves from the near bush.

Careful when using machete
Organic mulches decay over time and are temporary. The way a particular organic much decomposes and reacts to wetting by rain and dew affects its usefulness. Some mulches such as straw peat sawdust and other wood products may for a while negatively affect plant growth because of their wide carbon to nitrogen ratio, because bacteria and fungi that decompose the materials remove nitrogen from the surrounding soil for growth. However, whether this effect has any practical impact on gardens is disputed by researchers and the experience of gardeners.

Collect from the oil palm

Organic mulches can mat down, forming a barrier that blocks water and air flow between the soil and the atmosphere. vertically applied organic mulches can wick water from the soil to the surface, which can dry out the soil.

Apply mulches on the planting bed

Some of the mulches that we collects
The effect of mulch upon soil moisture content is complex. Mulch forms a layer between the soil and the atmosphere preventing sunlight from reaching the soil surface, thus reducing evaporation. However, mulch can also prevent water from reaching the soil by absorbing or blocking water from direct sunlight and rains. In order to maximize the benefits of mulch, while minimizing its negative influences, it is often applied in late spring or early summer when soil temperatures have risen sufficiently, but soil moisture content is still relatively high.

That all from me this week see you in week 5 guyss....

PLANTING BED PROCESS

Assalamaulaikum and hello everyone, this week was the third week I and all my classmates continued to settle our farm. Actually, this week we continued with making our planting bed. Do you know what is actually the planting bed is?. Okay, let's me explain to you. Generally, planting bed is the place that we want to plants our crop. It is same goes like bed to the crop, it is place to their growth and get nutrient from the soil. If their get enough nutrient and when it come time to harvest we can get a good results.

Raising plants bed, is a requirement in the early work in process of land preparation before do plant activity.Make planting bed basically activity raising the soil for planting at surface. This is a purpose to avoid the stagnent water while the crop live in planting bed.More advantages is increase soil fertility, crop more aeration because activity ploughing always do to give space for water into the soil. Also activity watering is more easily because have space to walk at left & right.Lastly the most important is can control weed, pest & disease.

THUMBS UP

Here we make memories

Yeah!!!

Our KG try to filter the foreign object like rock and wood
My classmate

Picture with my planting bed

We use hoe completely for raising the soil with help of my friends. Each of us must has our own planting bed, the height of our planting bed is 4 feet, length 22 feet(4x22).While the depth of drain 1 feet.In 1 plot have 12 planting bed.1 class have 2 plot so have 24 planting bed.In my batch have 3 class so have 6 plot = 72 planting bed.

We use hoe to flat our planting bed
Sincerity will bring good result

Drinks lot of water to ensure our body get enough water!!

We must ensure the soil is free form foreign particles such as rock, wood and others things that will disturb the root growth of our plants. This process we use flat open basket to filter the soil repeatedly.
Photo of the week!!

That all for our week 3 activity until the next week guys....
